Von Pygmalion über My fair Lady zur Aufführung
Wir wollen das wunderbare Musical My fair Lady zur Aufführung bringen. So werden wir uns mit der Vorlage Pygmalion von George Bernhard Shaw auseinandersetzen und in die musikalische Umsetzung « My fair Lady» von Frederick Loewe eintauchen.
At the beginning of the course, we will read and study J. B. Shaw’s play Pygmalion. We will dive into the London shortly before the First World War, which was a time of many facets. It was a period of staunch tradition but also of rapid innovation, of immense prosperity and of squalid poverty as well. Shaw manages to deal with these topics in a light and, using his own word, “pleasing” way, which often makes us smile, without disregarding the serious nature of the problems of his time. And of course, there is also a heart- warming love story.
The snobbery of the upper class is nicely shown in the following extract: Pickering: Does it occur to you, Higgins, that the girl has some feelings?
Higgins: Oh no, I don’t think so. Not any feelings that we need to bother about.
Anschliessend wenden wir der uns der Inszenierung des wunderbaren Musicals My Fair Lady zu, das sich sehr stark am Original Pygmalion anlehnt. Die Kusteilnehmer:innen werden auf der Bühne, in der Regie, beim Erstellen des Bühnenbildes, im Orchester und vieles mehr tätig sein, je nach Begeisterung. Sprache der Regie und Vorbereitung wird Deutsch sein. Das Musical selbst ist in Englischer Sprache.
